Wessex Folk Orchestra
A new group formed in the summer of 2019, and now growing. It is for people who like to play together and who like folk music from Britain and Europe. It has mandolins, guitars, banjo, recorders, cello, bass viol. But any portable acoustic instrument, woodwind, string
(sadly not brass) is welcome. So, maybe you've always wanted to be in an orchestra, but didn't go through all the grades? Here's your chance, folk music is all in friendly keys C, G, D, A min, E min, and it's all about the tunes.
Our conductor William Shering is an experienced musician, who has sung in cathedrals, runs a pop choir and a mandolin group, has played jazz, and,for some years, a ceilidh band. He arranges the music to suit the abilities of the players. So, if you're a bit rusty, you can start gently and get the juices flowing again. Our group is welcoming and friendly.
We meet on Wednesday evenings during term time.
